Teen Relationships (Part 2 of 5) | Las Cruces, NM

Posted on by david ?

How do you know if you are in an unhealthy relationship?? Here is one guideline:? If God is not present in your relationship then you should take a step back and ask why.? Love is spiritual by nature; scripture tells us that God is love (I John 4:7-8), love comes from God.? Jesus tells us in Matthew 22:37-38 that we are to ?love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first commandment.?? Our love is to be all about God.? On the other hand lust has nothing to do with being spiritual.? In fact, it is quite the opposite of love.? Lust is selfish, thinks only about itself and what it needs.? When God is even mentioned those that are in ?lust? push spiritual things aside.? So to know if you are in love or not, you need to ask yourself some questions:? Is God present when you are together?? Do you find yourself growing closer to God or further apart from God when you are together?? Are you suffering spiritually?? I have found that most couples do not even talk about spiritual things together, study God?s word together or pray together.?? What about you?? In my observations, if both people are fully in love with God first and find wholeness with God first, if they seek God first, they usually have a stronger relationship or marriage.? So the first step of being truly in love is to be truly in love with God first.? That is the first step towards having a healthy relationship.? Work on your relationship with God first, fall in love with the true creator of love!? If you want to have a great marriage someday, spend time with God.

?

Recently, I received a phone call from a couple whose marriage was coming apart.? At one time, one of them had a good relationship with God; the other was not even close.? Their attraction towards each other was proclaimed to be true love, although it more likely had to do more with lust because God, the true source of love, was not present.? Lust cannot sustain a marriage. In order to make marriage work, both parties have to be plugged into the true source of love ? God.? If not, then I believe there will an unraveling of the marriage.
